Want to quiet your Geared Head?

I was ready to remove my geared Head and replace with a belt drive or a router.

The noise was killing me. I found the secret to reducing the noise by at least 75%.

Valvoline SYN Power 75w-90 gear oil...... half the noise, no foam at 1250 rmp

When I first turned the machine on I thought I was loosing my hearing.

Next.... I lubed the spindle MAG1 Super lith EP Moly Grease

I can now hear my stereo and when the air conditioner kicks off....

    Peace at Last.........

I know it might be overkill...but has anyone thought of polishing the gears and shafts ala Mikronite? That coupled with a thermal/oil-retaining film should really benefit the IH mill. In a NASCAR racecar, it was worth about 10 hp & took the din out of the driveline components (we're talking about a straight-tooth 4speed Jerico and quick-change rearend). I'm not suggesting that you'll pickup any horsepower with this set-up, but if anybody is a hotrodder on here and has used coatings or Mikronite'd parts, they'll know that it's not just trick, it does the trick!
