VAC III D-11 SPINDLE DRIVE PROBLEM

We have a Cadet-V4020 with VAC III D-11 and got error message 082 ALARM P 1001FFFF. We found that the two fuses on power supply board on VAC III was blown they were fuses F2R AND F2S
we replaced them and they blew as soon as we turned power on. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen

Odds are that the power modules ... or large transistors on the spindle drive board have shorted ... that's a classic cause of that happening

Re: VAC III D-11 SPINDLE DRIVE PROBLEM

the biggest metal box is the spindle drive.
even if the IGBTs are blown the cause of the failure is almost always on the top board.
if you look at the later VAC III spindle drives the lower board is identical and the top board is different (i.e. the previous top board had design issues).
if you look at the latest VAC IV and VAC V spindle drives it is a completely new design and about half the size of the VAC III
    start here.....
    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/okuma/...fix-notes.html
you will have a LED error on the actual spindle drive.
get the manual linked on that thread and read up about your error.
the chances of you fixing it yourself are about 1 million to 1.

    There are 3 options:
1 buy a new VAC drive from Okuma (~$20k)
2 get it professionally repaired or a refurbished exchange unit (~$6k)
    3 scrap the machine

tell us what the LED error is showing, and what the green/red/orange LED look like, or if red LED is on/flashing, or take a photo of it.

I suspect either there are no LED's on or the red LED is flashing .... this guy has a problem that won't be fixed without the drive removed and taken apart

Re: VAC III D-11 SPINDLE DRIVE PROBLEM

the leds are too bright to read if they are on, flashing or off.
need to know the 7-segment LED numbers, if M1, M2 and M3 lights are on, off or flashing.
