    Turning and drilling copper

Hello, I'm having some trouble finding good speeds and feeds for copper. I'm working with .500" bar stock. Does anyone have some general guidelines for running this material? Thanks.

Turn it a lot on sliding heads, generally you need to peel it off, I would try 90m/min and a feed rate of .015-.02mm/rev, and you need a good coolant supply, I use neat cutting oil. I use Seco DCMT11T304 F1 in CP500. Or alternatively use alum geom. drilling use a carbide drill and keep the revs down, slow feed and small pecks.

Ok, thanks. I'll try this. I've been putting this material off because I broke a drill.

An old school toolmaker trick is to sharpen the tip of your drill slightly off centre so it drills a bit oversize, then in any non errous metal use a good fluid even a few drops of kerosene works just enough to keep the tip lubed so debris does not gum up or stick to the drill
