Increase Mill Spindle to Support Column Clearance

I just bought a Patriot VFD CNC and will be picking it up next week. Is it possible to increase the distance from the support column to mill spindle. I need to get a 20" part on the table with the ability to surface the entire part. I'd rather not do half the work and then spin it around to reach the other half. I can't tell from the pictures if the bridge where the spindle is attached is bolted to the support column or not. If it is, can I make a spacer block and lengthen all the wires?

Re: Increase Mill Spindle to Support Column Clearance

If you're talking about increasing the distance between the mill spindle and the lathe spindle, I suppose you could - given enough time and materials. Have a look at another thread in this forum - "Making some nice things on my Patriot", to see what one owner did. Although he didn't increase the distance from the support column to the mill head, it looks like he could have. He did however eliminate the support column on the right side of the machine, allowing him to get longer pieces in the mill.
