How to restrict cutter travel in 4 axis machining

When doing 4 axis machining, I'd like to limit how close the cutter can move to the chuck holding the part. I tried using region curves, but that didn't work well. What I really want is a clipping plane defined by its x value. Is there a way to do this? If it matters, I am doing a roughing pass.

You can resize the madCAM region by editing the length of the cylindrical region.

You can also use a 3D-stock model. Just draw a cylinder surface and use it as your stock model for madCAM. The toolpath will only be created where the cutter is in contact with the stock material. This works for both roughing and finishing.

I am using a custom stock model. Even though it ends at the same planes as a cylinder surface would, there are tool paths generated that are past the ends.

Any idea why, when I use the stock model, toolpaths are generated which are outside the stock?

The stock model is not a restricted area. It's just the material to cut. The toolpath can be outside the stockmodel if not colliding with your 3D-model.

I think the best way in this case is to create a stop-surface that you select together with your model. The toolpath will not pass over the stop-surface because it is part of your model.

I hope this will give you some help,
