Post **BEST PLUNGE ENDMILL FOR ALUMINUM??**

I have a straight up question!, What is a the best end mills for plunging out corners of a pocket in 7075-T6 Aluminum?? I have tried a few brands of 2 flute solid carbide endmills and from I have read, 2 flute seems to be the best but cant find any recommendations on brands, flutes, coatings, etc?

    Any info would be great,
    Thanks!

Try a drill-point endmill or drill-mill: 2 Flute Carbide Drill Mills - MariTool ; most endmills have a flat end, which isn't good for plunging even if it is a center-cutting design, which many are not. Coatings can help, but aren't essential.

Whichever ones you get, avoid the gold TN coated ones as aluminium generally tends to stick to the coating and really gums up.

I agree with everyone so far good advice! Donno about anyone else but I have had alot! of luck when dealing with 7075 using TiALN (black coated) 3 flute .030 corner radius solid carbide endmills with a 60 degree helix. Dont necessarily need the corner radius but it does help.

I know the tight twist of the flutes helps chip evac quite a bit. Not sure wile plunging altho maybe give it a shot. I get alot of chatter with 2 flutes when plunging, So I always have used 4 flutes to plunge until I tried thos tight helix 3's and I'll never use another one agian. Damn near all around those seem to be superior on aluminium to all others I have tried.
