    What is a breakout board?

    Hi Guys

Could somebody please explain what it is?

Why do I need it with Steppers / Geckos?

    Where does it sit?

    How do I use it?

    Is it easy to build?

    How do I source materials?

What are the good reference threads?

    Thanks

    Andy

A breakout board usually plugs directly into the parallel port, and has screw terminals for all the parallel port pins. This makes it very easy to wire your Geckos.

They also usually have provisions for limit and home switches, including onboard power and pull up resistors. So all you have to do is wire your switches to the breakout board and you're ready to go.

You don't have to use one, but they make wiring your system a lot easier.

When you can get one for $25, I see no reason to try to build your own. http://www.cnc4pc.com
