I have been contemplating building a CNC plasma cutter. But I will never be cutting anything thicker than 1/8" thick material. So I understand a laser gives better accuracy, particularly on holes.

Are CNC lasers a possibility for home building?

you are right, the laser machine gives better accuracy than the Plasma cutter.

the 150W laser machine cut stainless MAX 1.2mm Carbon steel MAX 1.5mm

yeah,it is possible for home building.

The holes I would like to cut are a minimum of 1/8" in diameter for fasteners in the completed parts. I could punch or drill the holes as a secondary operation but it would be nice if the cutter could do it for me.

I will be working with .04" - .09" thick 1050, 1075, or 4130 steel.

It sounds to me like fiber lasers are cheaper to use and operate than CO2 lasers. Is a fiber laser something that could be retrofitted onto a CNC router or plasma cutter?

Where does one buy one?

this 150W laser machine especially for cutting thin metal plate。can cut stainless MAX 0.05" carbon steel MAX 0.06" with best cutting effect。

the fiber laser cutting machine is very hot this year。 500W fiber laser machine can cut stainless MAX 0.1" carbon steel MAX 0.16"， price will also be very expensive，about 6times expensive than the laser machine。 there are China Raycus fiber laser source and Germany IPG fiber laser source for choose。 for cutting thin metal plate， considering the cost and payback， laser machine is a better option。


it seems difficult a fiber laser thing retrofit onto a CNC router or Plasma cutter。
