Need help deciding which bit to use for your next routing project? Our experts are waiting to help! Here at CNC Router Store, we provide expert advice on which tools you need to get the results you want.
Happy Independence Day for all of our friends in the U.S.! Our customer this week called in about a broken bit. After collecting the pieces, and reporting the tool number, they were using a bit that is meant to cut acrylic. Each bit is designed with the material in mind. When using bits on material it is not designed for, this gives them a greater likelihood of breakage or wearing down more quickly, greatly reducing their shelf life. They reported that they were cutting through 1/4 inch thick aluminum and required at least a 3/16 cutting diameter.
Based on their project requirements, we recommended the Onsrud 63-600 series, specifically sku numbers 63-614. These bits both provide smooth finishes for sheet and block aluminum, and are optimized for use on high-speed CNC mills, high speed machining centers, and CNC routers.
