    Tool Offset (G45,G46,G47,G48)

I can understand the use of "Tool length compensation" G43, G44,G49. Can someone explain why and when "tool offset" needs to be programmed.

    G45 Tool offset increase
    G46 Tool offset decrease
    G47.......
    G48........

Is this some cain of wear offset???????

    Any explanation will be appreciated.

    Sorry -

This is Machine center Fanuc 18. I believe codes are generic I just do not see why or when they can be used.

    Thank you for your replay.

I don't think I've ever used them in the 28 years I've been programming Fanuc or Yasnac controls... however:

They're usually used instead of G41/G42 to increase or decrease an X or Y move by the value stored in the D offset. I suppose they could be used if you were milling rectangles with 90 degree corner radii all day long, but I'd still use G41/G42.

I'm just guessing here but i would think these G codes would be mostly used on CNC grinding machines to allow for grinding wheel wear.

    Just like dcourpar was saying.
I have it a couple of my programs doing key way slots, but g41 g42 works the same way

I have used these codes when programming for right angle heads. It was some time ago and my memory is a little hazy, but I used G47 in conjunction with G18 to use offsets that enabled canned drill cycles to execute correctly. G48 was used to clear the offset IIRC.
