The Purpose of modified Washers W1

Pretty quiet around these parts, everybody must be enjoying the great outdoors for this summer.

I originally put the cable arms together without using any modified washers just to see how it all came together. Now I am going to backtrack a bit and install the modified washers W1 as per the plans. This got me to thinking - what are they there for? Can't the bearing be in direct contact with the aluminum bars and work fine?

Probably a dumb question but I ask it any way.

    Thanks, Dave

    Dave,

You don't want a washer in contact with the bearing hub on one side and the rim on the other. If you don't, the bearing won't turn. The modified bearings allow the bearing to turn when you have them sandwiched between the cable arms.

    Randy,

OK to make this clearer in my head

    - no washers means hub and rim on both sides of bearings in direct contact with arms - no good
    - standard washers on both sides of bearings means both hubs in contact with washers, both rims not in contact with anything -no good
    - standard washer on one side of bearing, modified bearing on other side - this works as you have standard washer in contact with the bearing hub on one side and the rim on the other side

Am I on the right track?

    Thanks, Dave
