    Stepper motor : FL60STH86-3008BF

    Hi all,

I am new to this site, and my project is to convert a milling machine ( BF20L )
    whith this stepper motor :FL60STH86-3008BF
Could you tell me if this stepper is a good choice for this job ?

(Power in bipolar Parallel mode whith MSD542 microstepping driver -4.2A 35V)

    Step Angle 1.8 Deg
Step Angle Accuracy 5% (full step, no load)
    Resistance Accuracy 10%
    Inductance Accuracy 20%
Temperature Rise 80OCMax.(rated current,2 phase on)
    Ambient Temperature -20OC~+50OC
    Insulation Resistance 100M Min. ,500VDC
Dielectric Strength 500VAC for one minute
    Shaft Radial Play 0.02Max. (450 g-load) Shaft
    Axial Play 0.08Max. (450 g-load) Max.
radial force 75N (20mm from the flange)
    Max. axial force 15N

Wiring - Voltage - Current Phase - Inductance - Inductance - Holding Torque
    Unipolar : 3.9 V - 3 A - 3.2 mH - 1.3 Ohm - 2.15 Nm
    Bipolar (P) :2.73 V - 4.2 A - 3.2 mH - 0.65 Ohm - 3 Nm
    Bipolar (S) : 5.46 V - 2.1 A - 12.8 mH - 2.6 Ohm - 3 Nm

thanks for your comments, and sorry for my bad english.

This motor is an the replacement to the FL60STH-2008BF that was a good motor, but suffered due to the high inductance.
We had this motor wound specifically to work with the MSD542 driver and the parallel phase current is 4.2A and the inductance is a lot lower than the original motor.
Saying that to get the best from the motor you will need to give it more volts.
Have a look at the torque curve in the datasheet, it really shows how important the higher votage is.

Is the msd542 with 35v is enought to power the stepper at high voltage, or should i use more voltage 50V, 60V ?
What is the maximum that i can use whith this stepper ?
    Thanks.

35-40V is the best foltage to use.
The max voltage of the driver is 50V, so having the foltage at 40V gives you some head room for BEMF.
