    Solidworks

    BobCad version 21
Is it possible to open a Solidworks 3D model in this version
So far it seems i cant, I can bring a part into BCC as a DXF or DWG
But not as a sldprt.file. I can open a 3D solid as a DXF, it shows up
in BCC as its Rendered version (will it work?)
I even tried it as an IGES (not sure it will work)

Will Solidworks work with this version? Thanks

Yes, V21 will open .sldprt files, as well as IGES, STEP, SAT, DWG, DXF, Rhino etc, etc.

I don`t have any problems importing any of the above in my V21.

Try opening the attached .sldprt file, this is a simple rectangular block that opens fine in my V21. I can change it`s size, extract edges etc,etc no problem.

If this doesn`t work in your V21 then you have a problem that I don`t know how to fix, you may need to run it by BobCAD support.

If it opens OK then sounds like the other files have a problem !!

What version of SolidWorks? I bet v21 works with, say, 2008 and older, but perhaps not with newer versions (2009, 2010, 2011...)?

    Thanks Rob for your effort.
I tried to open your file, the same dialogue box came up saying
could not open file?? Perhaps there is something to what Mcphill
suggested its in my Solidworks version which is 2010??
Need more info on that---- rckdef

Hmmmmm, possible I suppose but I`m not so sure about that, the file I uploaded was created/last modified 12 March 2009 which was before Solidworks 2009 was available I believe, if so I would expect that file to have been produced from Solidworks 2008.

Another test then, if you have a 2010 Solidworks file that you can`t open then please upload it and I will see if I can open it with my V21, if yes then that is not the problem.

What version of V21 are you running ?? I have what I believe to be the last update BobCAD 21.5.3

    Regards

I think the BobCAM V1 plugin for Solidworks only works with Solidworks 2009 and 2010.

Burrman is right, it doesn`t work that way, you need to either upload your file using the "Manage Attachments" facility when posting or email it direct to me.
You will need to "Zip" the sldprt file as the CNC Zone won`t allow the file format to be uploaded.
Usual method in Windows, find the file, right click and then select "Send to" then "Compressed (zipped) folder", that will create a Zip file version of the sldprt file that you can then upload to the CNC Zone for us to test out. Best if you can do this as it means others can also give it a try on their systems

Alternatively you can email the file to me here "rob (at) alroracing.com"

    Hello Danny

Got the Solidworks file you sent via email, it look like mcphil is correct regarding the Version of Solidworks, the file you sent I was unable to open in my V21, I was able to open it OK in V23 and work on it.

Another thing, I noticed that Pete (Gncc50) on the Forum was able to open the file I uploaded with his V21 Express which is a later/different version of V21 than the one you and I have but you were not, odd.

However, none of this solves your problem, looks like you need to have the BobCAM V1 Pro plugin for your Solidworks 2010 as the easiest way of getting to CAM from your Solidworks files.

Only other (cheaper ) way I can think of would be for someone to put your files through their BobCAD that will open your Solidworks and save them out again in a Format your V21 can open, either as a V21 .cad file, a .dxf file or maybe an IGES file.

I sent you some files to try via the email, let us know what worked and what didn`t ??

    Regards
    Rob

V21.5.3, which is the version you own if you bought prior to 2009, will only open SW2009 and earlier.

V21.6 or V21 Express will open SW 2010 and earlier.

V23 will open SW 2010 and earlier.

    Regards
