    Simple yes/no question about Joe's 4x4

Doing a lot of research for my next build. The designs I am considering are the MechMate and the Joe's 4x4 Hybrid. Both use v-groove bearings on angle iron rails. The MechMate uses larger bearings than Joe's 4x4 and thicker (1/4") angle iron. The rails are ground to match the v shape of the bearings.

Are the rails in Joe's 4x4 ground to fit the bearings?

    No.

At least not normally. But I think I read recently that some have ground them ala Mechmate.

I tried grinding the edges of my angle iron on my Joe's 4X4 and it was a noisy and bothersome waste of time. I ended up filing the angle on the edges - only took about 5 minutes per 6-foot piece. Since I plan to use my machine primarily for wood and acrylics, v-bearings on the angle iron will definitely produce the tolerances I'll need.
