    Siemens ER Module bench test

Does anyone know where I can send a Siemens ER Module out to be tested?

The machine (VMC-760 corca 1993) is getting a couple of non repeating faults. Spindle drive fault comes on and then goes off, the X drive axis fault intermittently shows up also. Nothing consistant they come and go.

    Thanks

Let me pose another question. Has anyone retrofitted a newer CNC control to an old machine? Where do I start looking for this information? Any recomendations for a company?

The machine is rock solid albeit a little slow. I hate to pour a ton of money into her or worse scrap it out because the electronics are acting up.

    Machine; VMC-760
    Year; 1993
    Control Heidenhein TNC 2500B

    Thanks.

I can`t help with where to send it as I am in the UK but have you asked Siemens?
Is it a 6SC-611 drive that the ER unit is from? They are quite reliable unless you lose a phase while it is powered up.The early ones destroyed themselves when that happened.
I think the early ones are obsolete as ISTR Siemens saying they couldn`t get one of the original components and the replacements would not stand the 11Kva flashover test they give them.Be careful if you`re messing about with it as the dc link voltage is 660 volts.
For a retrofit if the machine is worth it I would use a Siemens 802.

try doing it yourself. when you see spindle drive fault , error code should appear on the 7-segment display on the spindle drive, so open the door and check the error code number.
for the x-axis drive, swap the drive with y-axis, as they are the same. then see whether the dive fault alarm occur on X or Y.

We had a service guy out to look at the machine. He swapped the X and Y axis and it didn't make any difference. The randomness of the faults suggests it's getting a bad signal from somewhere. He suggested maybe the ER Module, so my boss told me to pull it and send it out for testing.

I ended up sending it out to ERD in North Carolina.

Siemens Simodrive 611 E/R or U/E module testing & repair

    Hi,

If you have any more trouble with the Simodrive 611 system, I may be able to help you troubleshoot it over the phone or net. I also have a full test setup here in North Carolina, and have been repairing the Siemens infeed modules, servo modules and servomotors for about 12 years now.

I'm currently working on setting up Fanuc servo amplifier and CNC control tests if anyone can refer me to someone that has a lot of experience with this?

    Best regards,

    Andy Fleming

    Simodrive 610 / 6SC610

Hey Gridley (sounds like a yorkshire term?)

Yes I have also set up test systems and repaired to component level all of the cards and the servomotors from the 610 series. I just didn't mention as I didn't think there were many of them left around. Last time I repaired one it was on an old Cincinnati CNC lathe a couple of years ago. I did the field service call then repaired the amplifier cards from it.
