    copyright infringement

    CKM Chris,

Saw a 2800 on ebay with ad info that looked and sounded familiar. You should have copyrighted your first post in this thread. At least somebody found you work interesting and informative, and perhaps sales worthy. Are you getting a commission or is it your machine? I thought you were in the heart of eBay valley, not northeast/midwest.

Congratulations, imitation (or plagerism) is the highest form of flattery.

    Copyright infringement of top post

Well, it is copyrighted. Whoever copied it violated my copyright, I don't need to state it explicitly.

See http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/fa...al.html#mywork for details. For others reading this thread and wanting to using the content any of the posts, please keep in mind that they are ALL copyrighted by their respective authors and you must have permission before using them in any way. Of course, CNCzone has full permission to use these as per the TOS.

In general, I would not care if people use the text as long as I and CNCzone are properly credited with at least a link back to this thread (note that this is not a license to use my work in anyway, just a guideline). My goal in starting this thread was to have a place where everyone who had these machines could share information about them.

I'm going to contact the lister to get a link back to this thread. Thanks for the heads up.

Update on the copyright thing. I did get the person with the auction mentioned above to include a link back to this thread (even if they were pretty clueless about what it all meant...).

However, I just discovered another ebay auction with a copy of the top post. Might have to contact the CNCzone moderators to edit that top post with copyright and linking information...

    Parts for sale

If anyone needs parts for the 4400, I've pretty much removed all the electronics and motors from mine. I've got the following still available:

    - Master control board
    - Spindle control board
    - 48v power supply
    - Spindle drive (possibly non-functional)
    - Stepper and tool changer driver boards
    - Motor breakout boards
    - Tool changer/safety relay board
    - Axis motors and encoders
    - Limit Switches

Other than the spindle drive, everything was working when removed. Thought you all might need some of these if you own a 4400 and something breaks.

    PM if you are interested.

    Thx.

I got it up and running last (in late October), but that was just a temporary setup. I've been slowly cleaning it up and adding critical safety equipment (like NO limit switches), but it's been slow going as I don't have much time and only a minimal budget.

I've got some new photos of it that I'll try to post in the next few weeks.

    4400 Spindle Control

I just purchased a 4400 a few weeks ago and I'm working on a Mach 3 Retrofit on it. Has anyone figured out the +/- 10V for the spindle drive? I will use a relay setup for CCW/CW if I have to but I was wondering if anyone came up with any better ideas to control it from Mach.

    spindle drive

    hey hey copterkid
i guess you are entering in the world of dm4400...
i believe , if you are doing a retrofit that you bought a breakout board for your steppers and so on, and the drive has to be controlled with a spindle controller... you can find those at http://www.pmdx.com/ at theis site it is very interesting...
i have 1 dm4400 and 1 dm4000, the dm4000 run beautifully since i bought it almost new the other one i bought it last year and it was almost at the junk yard when i did power it everything blown up inside i did replace almost all the parts , meanwhile i did order a cnc kit complete from mach motion wich look great i didn't install it yet since i am trying to repair the dm4400 wich is almost finish you can visit http://www.machmotion.com/ they do have very nice kit for it, mine is one of them you can you can look at the spindle controller it is there too..
    have a nice day

    DM4400

It appears that all the spindle control cards that I found are only 0-10 volts so they will only drive the spindle in one direction. I think a relay driven by one of the outputs is the easiest way to reverse the polarity for spindle control.
I'm also curious if anyone knows the step motor color codes for this machine. I want to use Geckos and the motor has eight wires. I believe I want to run the motors in series and use the remaining 4 wires as A A' B B'. If anyone has any input on this I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Justin

    dm4400 spindle drive

    copterkid
....bottom line of that drive between you and me, do you really need reverse spindle i don't i am not tapping with the machine i use tapping head, i just hate to break a 4-40 tap on a part...
but i know we want to retrofit the machine like it was.. i think one guy here i think it is CKM played a lot on the spindle drive but i dunno if he reverse it, he replace that old spindle drive on his machine, mine i took it apart completely and did wash each part in the sink with hot water a toot brush and diswasher soap , dry it completely and let it sit a week in a warm place just to make sure.
there was no air filter unit on that machine so i did make one out of pvc plate and 2 110 volts fans and added a small furnace filter because the inside of that machine was like my truck oil pan ( just dunno what he did with it )...
so imagine that spindle drive with the fan at the end it suck that oil inside the drive and deposit there on everything for yearsssss..
for the axes xyz i want to replace the steppers with
    nema34 453 ounces bipolar
my breakout board is a PMDX-132
    with gecko 201 drive
    spindle controler PMDX-106

I have a Dyna-Mite 2400 that I recently aquired. So far it does everything I ask it to do, just slow.

Hey all from the land down under.

I'm posting this on behalf of my boss, I've also noticed a few aussie members here which is good because someone may be able to point us in the right direction.

We have 2x DYNA 4400M machines with meldas m3 control, 10 tool changer etc, Same as the 2 red and white ones side by side in the 1st post.

We are having an issue with one of the boards in it.

We are trying to find either a way to repair or cost up a replacement x and y axis servo drive board

The X works fine, But the Y axis wont reference.

We've been able to use the machine to say drill and tap holes in a straight line etc, But nothing else.

Attached is a picture of the board we are looking to fix/replace.

If anyone knows someone who deals in spares/repairs for these machines in Australia, We are located in Carlton, Sydney. Also, If anyone has schematics on these machines would be greatly appreciated too!

    Kind regards,
    Eric.

    ScoobRS,

Mitsubishi USA still repairs those boards. It is pricey but comes with a warranty. You might check their website www.meau.com to see what options they have in your part of the world.

I have two of those DM4400Ms like yours.

It would be nice to know where in the US you are. These are very, very good bases for retrofits as they are full mehanite dovetail castings.

Sorry for the late reply, been too busy with regular work. The summary is that I got the machine assembled and running at the end of last August, then had to go away on a month long business trip. When I got back, I realized that the machine was too fast to rely on just soft-limits and that the Dyna limit switches were crap (and normally open...), so I took everything apart and added limit switches. The side effect of this was running out of input lines, so I had to re-wire the control panel....

As of this writing I am still down. Mostly due to a severe budget crunch late last year and way too much work in the first few months of this year. But I hope to make some progress in the next few weeks as work has slowed down.

Someone else asked about the spindle drive. I replaced mine with a newer, smaller model, but I also fixed the old drive (but it's not tested).

    HTH,

    Chris.
