Quick question: What is the best way to do rest machining after using a twist drill.

Example:

I create a hole .475" in diameter, .5 deep.

I first drill it with a 7/16 drill bit and then I want to go in with a say a 1/4 end mill to helical down to clear out the bottom (twist drill tip) and then spiral out to the hole finish size.

I end up with a flat bottom hole at the correct size.

This is the correct way, just enter at middle of hole insted of spiral.

Right, that is the wanted action, how do you get Solidcam to do it.

Just do an iMachining operation such that the top level is at the top of the drill point angle and bottom at the depth you want, go out to the diameter of the drill only, then do another as an open pocket to bring the pocket to size, then finish it.

You could just do a helical contour down to the bottom too, then the second iMachining operation.

Helical conter down would grind the bottom part of your tool. Escpasally if it's not a center cutting tool.
