We have a Mazak MAZAK QUICK TURN NEXUS 450-II MY and we cannot get the tailstock to go in front of the steady rest. When we try we get a "soft limit" and we cannot move the tailstock any further.

Is it even possible to do this? It looks like there is clearance.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have run in to this problem before unfortunately there is no easy solution
The steady rest runs on the same rails as the tailstock, if you have the soft limit alarm the tailstock base is close to the steady rest
If I remember correctly the soft limit alarm works off BA parameters but be careful, they are set close at the factory

Some possible solutions

Move the steady rest closer to the chuck
Can you swap the steady to the other side of its base to get better clearance
In the past I have made an extended centre

i don't believe this is possible. if you are not using the steady rest, take it off, and then the tailstock will reach over the base to allow you to support the part. these steady rests on the QTN450 are programmable, and all controlled by sensors.
