kl-1212 First impressions pictures and questions

Hello I though I would post some pictures of my kl-1212, this shows some of the detail I was not able to find elsewhere. I bought it off Craigslist to replace a rack and pinion machine that I had worn out.

I have not had it very long but am very happy with it, my old machine would have issues with cutting bas reliefs, it would leave lines wherever things would flex even at slow speeds.

I was cutting some walnut earlier and accidentally cut .9 depth with a 1/4 end mill without much problem.

    Some things you should know!

This has only one limit switch per axis and the one for the long axis is at the back of the table instead of the front.
The spindle is started from a manual switch it is not connected to the BoB.
The water line for the spindle on my machine was dry rotted so I would recommend replacing it.
This machine is a lot slower than my R&P machine, on bas reliefs my top speed is around 70ipm most of the time
The 2.2kw spindle is very quiet, even more so than my 2.2 spindle on my old machine for some reason.
    Lots of torque!
It weighs about 700 lbs and is possible to disconnect the table from the machine

    Some questions
I hope to purchase a smooth stepper soon will I need to change my motor settings to get the most out of it?
Would I get more performance with a smooth stepper/bob combo board?
What lubricant should I use on the rails if any?
Right now I have two sheets of mdf clamped down on top of the black plastic base that I screw down my boards onto, Is there a better way of doing this
I cannot use the clamps because I need a spoil board.
Are these nema 34 steppers? or something proprietary.
How do I get mach to not go past physical a limit switch when it is tripped?

I am still using this machine and still happy with it. If you have any questions I will try to answer.
