High Speed Air Spindle on Bridgeport Boss 8 R2E3?

    Hello,

I have been pondering using a high speed air spindle on my original Bridgeport Boss 8 R2E3 milling machine (just won one on eBay). The problem is that there is a spindle interlock that requires the spindle to be on or all axis feeds will be inhibited. The manual states that an emergency stop condition will be initiated if the spindle contactor drops out. I would like to mount the air spindle in a collet tool holder in the mill spindle, so obviously the mill spindle can't spin (at least if I want the air lines to stay connected). Has anyone ever used a secondary spindle on an old mill like this with the original controls?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joe

you should be able to fool the beast into thinking the spindle is on by adding a switch accross the auxillary contact on the contactor that tells the machine the spindle is running. should be easy to find in the schematics. hope this helps
