Hi all,
I unwound some wire that was on a bobbin that was approximately 7.5 inches by 2 inches. 2 sides of the rectangular bobbin was 7.5 and the other 2 were 2 inches. I'm calculating that it would take 19" of wire to make one wrap.
I unwrapped 1000 turns of wire.
(19 X 1000) = 19000 / 12 = 1583 feet of wire
Does that look right? Obviously as the wraps go on the bobbin the coil of wire will get bigger and it will take more wire as the coil grows. I'm getting an approximate value.
The wire is .040 measured with a micrometer. Is that 18 awg?
There are two coils wired in series and are supposed to read 46 ohms when measured with a multimeter. Can I get away with another gauge of wire? Something less expensive? 18 awg magnet wire is terribly expensive.
