    Old rusty vise :x

I found this in my dads garage, no idea how old it is, think its worth trying to save?

I already have a nice 6" on my table, but a spare can't be bad...unless the chances of me ever getting this working smooth and into tolerance againt aren't worth it. I'm not sure what restoring it would involve, other then a lot of sanding.

If its in too crummy a shape to be used on a mill, I'll find some other use for it, drill press or table vise...

Let me know what you think.

Honestly, from my perspective, it looks to be just a bit of surface rust. It still looks very salvageable to me.

You can use electrolysis to remove the rust. Below is a link that explains the method.
It works great and only removes the rust.
You can get the washing soda at any pool and spa supply store.

My screwless vise was in worst shape than that when I got it. No paint on those, and all surfaces had rust, plus there were dings/high spots I had to file off. It's a great and accurate vise now, 0$ invested.
