Not sure why you don't just wait, and make the parts on your plasma table?

i am a pretty strong guy...however im not superman.

i can spend more $ and have my local metal supply cut it into smaller sheets for me or, i can pay a local business (who is also a pretty good friend of mine) cut them for me....

not to mention the stepper motor plates and other things i have drawn up for my cnc plasma build...need to be waterjet cut, only makes sense to throw a few of these in the mix since it wont cost much extra anyways

i doubt the plates needed for my cnc gantry will cost the $75 minimum...

Gurew, My plasma table is about 3/4ths of the way done. I am rearranging my shop to get it in place, and I have some big sheets I need to move around. Oklahomas' weather isn't helping..............jb

idk how accurate this software is in terms of job quotes, but it says including material cost and labor cost, its $110.20 to make 8 of them...surely that isnt right

times like today i wish i had a mig welder...tig welding the water table portion is such a pain in the ass

more pics for your viewing pleasure....got tired of welding and decided to neatly route and tuck the wires to my computer...so much nicer and no more grabbing wires when i stretch out

    Hi gurew,
Your command center like in pentagon, nice. One for CAD, one for CAM, one for Mach3?

thats what i call a nest!!! its my gantry dxf files that i sent off today for waterjet. now i only need enough for 1 gantry obviously...but if i were to cut a full sheet i would have enough to build 40 gantry kits out of 1 sheet

I don't think that the software that made that report is set correctly for any machine you are likely to build. If you do the math, that report implies a cut speed on 5/8" steel at somewhere around 170 inches per minute and cutting 3/8" steel at more than 300 inches per minute. For cut speeds like that you would likely need a very large high-definition plasma machine.

Also, keep in mind when estimating costs that you will spend a considerable amount of time just getting the material on the table, material lined up, removing cut parts, and dealing with the skeleton when the parts are cut.

it wasnt, i fiddled with the settings, inputed the correct ipms and set the material costs. it also lets you put the $ for labor on loading a sheet, and plasma operation etc...im trying to get a demo copy of solidnest since that would better suite my needs. right now in solidworks i have to open each file in an assembly, then export to dxf...i wish it was so i could just export to dxf within an assembly...maybe you can im just not smart enough to figure it out right now...

here is some dirty welding porn. about 3 seconds per bead on 2x2x.120 freshly cut with coolant still on the part fresh from the saw with no deburring, hence the garbage on the top of the weld..

not quite finished obviously however ill post it here before i post it in the sheetcam forum...

    http://daaenterprise.com/sheetcam/tools/index.php

ability to mass add tools for plasma tip, and material thickness to set your ipm and kerf sizes. i know every machine is different but ill be making a file for the hypertherm 45/65/85 machines and post them on the same page...

i honestly had my doubts with the plastic linear rails (the rails are actually metal btw) the carriers are so cheap that if and when you need to replace them its easy to just have a bunch of extra parts on hand...and not only that, they literally do have higher life expectancy than some of the metal bearing stuff. it all comes down to math and their formulas based on weight, types of weight placement etc...

i can post some pics of the gantry cad files if you want so you can get an idea how im doing it....maybe ill start selling gantry kits like everyone else...

i changed the size of my table so the driveshaft and 2nd bracket need to be moved in (was going to do 5x10 cut area but decided to go a little smaller, closer to 4x8 cut area but the ability to literally cut a full sheet of 4x8 WITH an engraver that can access 100% of the cut area...idk if that makes sense but it does to me
