Hello,
To me it looks like this is just the horizontal moving head that probably attached to a large work table.

They appear to specialize in burnishing machines, which this could be a type of.
I would suspect it either works in conjunction with a bed mill or other separate mounted work piece.
A quick call to them may bring some light on it?
Motors and parts maybe worth $400.00, but the cost of converting to any kind of CNC may not be worth it unless you can use it in its original intended purpose.

I'll give them a quick call. To bad it doesn't have the table attached then it would be a pretty cool.

It doesn't really need a table all the movement is provided by the unit. The installation provides the surface for part holding. Park it somewhere and bolt the stuff to the floor. Or drive a truck up next to it do some machining on the truck then drive away.

Chiron mills work much the same way though they are vertical mills. It is a pretty interesting setup since the weight of the part being machined doesn't affect the machine dynamics.

Um. Calm down. Put your bid card down and walk away from the auction. Do you need this? Can you use this? Does your shop have room for it? Sure, its a great deal, but it might prove folly to buy it just because it is cheap.
