I have found a surplus PSU rated for 25V 30A for $40.
Do you think it is a good deal ?

Dont remember brand, the sticker had other specs based on temperature, the PSU will output 28A if the temperature is 60 degrees celcius. Pulled out from an industrial assembly line, I believe Chrysler. Possible year of making 1989.
What to look for buying a PSU. Any no-no's?
I have not bought the PSU because I had no multimeter to test it.

kind of weird what would you use at 25volts? just looking around maybe a xylotex but 30 sure be nice also would only need 10amps.

My guess is i would pass as if you need somthing with that high of amps you really need higher volts. and if you need that volts you can buy somting with lower amps. Unless you have a weird controller or somthing else planed for it then might be just what you need

If the input is rated the way you want it 115 AC single phase and the output does produce 28 VDC at the rated current, see if they have a ripple rating....what is your primary use for this power supply?

I wish to run my 5.2V 1.4A/phase 3 axis design , usint the OS discrete with chopper board. Maybe add more axis later.
What is the A rating needed ?
My motors will draw 1.4A/phase , then 3 motors will draw about 1.4x6 = 8.4 A.

Why I wonder about getting the PSU is that is made in Germany. and has a good amp rating.

Actualy the PSU wasnt made in Germany, as I thought, but assembled in Mexico for "Lambda" Power Supplies.
My model is the LFS-47-24. It has regulated, with a potentiometer, output range 22.8V to 25.20V, 33.5A @ 40C 32.00A @ 50C and 28.5A @ 60C.
Retailed at $845 back then 1992.
Cost me $40.
Works fine.
Now I have a power supply.

The PSU has Remote Turn-ON/Turn-Off (dont know how to use it yet), Remote sensing among other things which do not tell me much, because I am a n00b.
