    Problem importing bmp file

    New to Dolphin cadcam...
I'm trying to import a bmp graphic of a solid light gray tree onto my work surface, but I can't see it after importing.
If I try to import it again, the program prompts me that it is already there.
    So where is it?
    How do I see it?

I havent used that feature much but if you look in the help section or whats new it should explain it. I think you import the bitmaps and then trace over.

Thanks for the input, but if I can't see it, it would be pretty hard to trace, yes?
I tried the help files first, but wasn't able to discover an answer...

This is from an earlier thread.
Select import choose your image then click the image icon on your tool bar (the green cactus) which will bring the image to the work area then click to drop it. You can also set the scale in the properties dialog box.

I'm not seeing the green cactus image icon...
But I downloaded the program using the Intermediate Level settings...
A search of Help for 'cactus' or 'image icon' produced no results...
If I can now find that icon, I'll probably be in good shape.
Any idea how to make the 'cactus' appear?

You can right click anywhere on the menu and click customize. On the left menu double click image. It should appear then.

    Bingo!
I was finally able to find the two cacti icon, and cause the image to appear.
Thanks for your patience in helping me find the tool!
I can't wait to actually manipulate the image after a decent night's sleep...

    Hello Chet,

Rodney asked me to produce a video showing the bitmap feature.

I have uploaded a short video to :-

    www.dolphin2.myzen.co.uk/flash/bitmaps.zip

Unfortunealtely there is no sound as my sound card has gone AWOL.

Please bear in mind that the image must be a .bmp file and that the image can't be accessed directly, it's only use is for tracing over. In the video I used the curve fit command but you could use the lines/arc/ etc.

If you use the curve fitting routine - look at the help messages at the bottom of the screen, this will guide you as what to do next.

Andre, thank you for your effort.
(And a thanks to Rodney for suggesting it!)
BUT, I'm having trouble playing the un-zipped files.
There's 3 files in the folder:
    bitmaps.html 1 kb
    bitmaps.js 1 kb
    bitmaps.swf 4,548 kb
Nothing happens when I click any of the above.
I'm sure I have Flash, and any number of other players, but when I double-click on the .swf all I get is a spyware check...
    (And, yes, it passes)
    TIA, Chet

    Hello Chet,

You just need to double click the .html file, this calls up the shockwave flash file.

It might be somehting to do with your internet setting as Windows probably thinks you are trying access the internet from a non-secure source.

You may also have to disable any fire-walls/virus checkers that you have.

Worked ok for me although I caught myself watching it twice since it doesnt stop at the end, just auto starts over.

it would be easier and more accurate to trace the image in inkscape , save it as a dxf then import it into dolphin

I'm starting to feel like a dwarf in a land of giants!
Since some of you are getting the file to run, it must be a problem peculiar to my computer (Vista Home Premium) and Firefox internet access.
    (sigh...)
I also checked out the recommendation for inkscape, but it only indicated compatibility up to Windows 2000....
    Soooo....
I may have to let this rest for a day or two and reset my brain (human, very early edition) for a fresh look at what's going on...

I had a similar problem a while ago and it seemed to be a problem with my adobe. Maybe try uninstalling it and reinstalling. Just a shot from the hip.
