    OT: Some old-school machining photos

The threads involving cranks reminded me of this link, which I saw on another forum a while back. The photos are all from 1957-1958, taken at a British marine engine manufacturer. Some big and interesting machines.

My back aches just thinking about working there! I'm far too much of a jam tart for that kind of work.

My favorite metal working tool is a planer. I think I could watch those work all day long. Did you see the cut they were taking off the top of one of those lobes? Looked like a 1/2" wide x 1/8" deep cut per pass.

I was just going to mention something similar. I don't think I saw even one picture with anyone wearing safety glasses hehe
