Newb. Best way to make 1-1/8" hole inside a 1.5" round aluminum rod?

I have used drill bits and they work great, but this hole is very big.
I ordered a 1-1/8" drill bit with a 1/2" mounting rod so it should fit inside the chuck of my harbor freight 7x10

In the meantime...is there a better way to do this? Maybe with an extra wide cutting tool?

It's just 1.5" diameter aluminum round stock that I need to drill a big hole in the center of.

    Thanks in advance

for that small lathe I think that bit is too large.. motor I think not designed for..
    but its only my opinion..

if ready part is a trough hole, you can try to start with aluminum pipe..
1.5 dia outside and 0.25 wall .. however it will be a little tricky if you don't want clamping deform your pipe..

Dill a hole big enough for your boring tool then bore to size

I will google "boring tool" to see what it is.
The hole is half an inch deep.

Boring tool instead of a boring bar seems the right choice here. Start with a small drill, then feed a decent cutting tool on in (mounted in your tool post) and bore out the hole.

    Something like this...

But with a shank to mount in tool post.

Nope. Failed so far. The huge drill bit 1-1/8" seems fine and fits in the chuck, but after I got about 1/8" deep it stopped cutting smoothly and everything started bouncing around and the drill bit cut off center making the hole bigger than 1-1/8"
I have abandoned that project for now since there is an element of speed needed ...making multiple pieces.
If boring is as slow as turning then it is impractical to bore out so much material for me.
    Thanks though.
