New to Rhino.. trying to model a 'puzzle piece'

Id ultimately like to machine a couple of puzzle pieces that will fit together out of two contrasting woods..

I would like to extrude 2 dovetail/circle shapes. (at some point i will upload the image)

Should i trace out the outline of the thing I want to extrude and then convert it to a solid? Im not sure how this is done...

One problem I am running into is I have a line going through a circle. I want to split the circle in two and delete the line segment inside the circle, as well as one half of the circle. The other half is going to lie inside the piece I want to machine out of wood.

Why the heck can't I post an image???

Here it is.. as can be seen in the image there is a lower line going through some shapes.. Id like to delete the line segments that lie inside the shapes, so that I end up with sort of a jagged shape that I can then extrude. THen I want to make the complimentary part so they can fit together like a puzzle piece.

    Hi,

You might want to check out the command CurveBoolean (look at the Help for a good explanation of how it works). Ot6herwise, you can select all the curves, call Trim, start clicking on the parts you don't want to keep until they're all gone... Then, when you have all the pieces, select them all and call Join.

As far as making the piece "solid" by extruding the curve, if it's a 2.5D machining operation (profiling, pocketing), you don't need anything but the curves to define and machine the object. --ch
