    Motor cabling

Hi, I found some 2 lead 24g stranded and shielded wire for home and limit switches at radio shack(microphone cable).

I'd like to go with some 6 or 8 wire 20g shielded for my motors but I'm having a heck of a time finding it, any suggestions?

Unless you're using unipolar drivers you should be able to use 4-wire shielded cable. 22 guage wire (it's rated at 7 amps) should be sufficient unless your motors are huge.

If you can get away with 4 wires, try McMaster-Carr 7673K41

You can buy directly from Igus.

Hi, thanks for the response. I should have added that I'm using a hobby cnc pro chopper driver which I believe is a unipolar driver. I'm currently running 6 wires at 22g but its solid core, I'm switching to a mobile gantry style machine and am concerned about the possibility of breaking one of them and at the same time wanted to go with a larger/shielded cable as an upgrade to my existing electronics

I didnt realize that 22g would have that capacity. I guess it was just my desire to over engineer the system. At that capacity its already there.

You really shouldn't need shielded wire for your steppers. McMaster #7673K54 should work

Always use shielded cables for your motors but only connect the screen at one end, EMF noise induced into the system can make it unstable. consider looking CNC Community: SINUMERIK CNC4you - Siemens,
