I have it as well. I have not used it to find out much of the new features. If they added much in the CAD side I will not see them anyway because I use Solidworks for CAD.
    Thanks

Well as you folks move thru and have thoughts or questions please feel free to ask.

I will be posting some of the new features over the next week or so.

HomeCNC are you using the MCdirect with your solid works so as you finish your part in SW you hit the MC button at the top in SW and it will launch MC and bring your file right in and also check for say diffrences in an existing file that may have made changes to?

I have it and love it. Especially the VBS, although somewhat limited and still a bit buggy. At least it's there for me to destroy my day, (and un-fortunately, a couple of not-so-recently backed up MC files that I happened to wipe out)

The extra pocket finishing options are sweet. The MW Zoom R0X0Rs meh B0X0Rs. And the Leadin/Leadout options are real nice for deburring tools going against walls, or EMing a tab or what ever.

All in all, very nice. Kudos once again CNC Software for listening to your customers!

My shop has it but has not used it yet. I heard that you will able to zoom and pan around the verify screen just like you can while you are drawing. If I find anymore info on v9 I will let you guys know.

Jimmy you are correct. You will also see in Varify that the view your model is in when you go to varify will be the same view in Varify and vise versa from varify screen to the model.

Jimmy why have you not used it yet?

    Hi All,

I made a wrong turn at the emastercam.com forum and wound up here .

Anyway... Just started using 9.1 Mill and wire havent done much with Lathe.

I am dying to mess with the VBS stuff, but I know once I start I ill have no life so I am forcing myself not to look at it until I have more time available.

One of the simple things I used yesterday is the Alter endpoints on the lead in leadout page. Probably saved 1/2 hour on a part that had to have machined edgebreaks all over. No extra drive geometry required. Oh yeah and the feed rate on the leads too Its the little things that mean alot. I Like the new verify once I got uset to the zoom thing. Using STL stock files which working well so far. I was away from Mastercam for a little while and at that time I hadnt used the STL files for verify. Most of our models are solid modled in our other CAD system now at each operation for operation sketches so I have solids available to convert to STL for verification and Im really liking that.

Im still staring at the High Feed button every day saying I probably should be using this.

In Wire, Im getting used to the new T/C points and Im glad they added Start point definition in the parameters page.
Wee aim to please ... You aim to ... PLEASE.

We have it now but isn't it sad that it is still 8 years behind. It is crazy that it is still not Windows. We use Solidworks for our design and when we use Mastercam it's like stepping well back in time. Well back.

Cruncher Is this feeling due to the GUI or are you saying that the tolls are old school?

If you are talking about the GUI the big jump is coming I know this bothers alott of folks.

I can't wait for Version X beta to start.

The main problem is the interface being DOS and all the functions are like DOS also. They have been saying for years that it will be windows but when?. Because it is still DOS even the function keys are wrong take even the F1 key for example. Also when using it a lot of the dialogues stay on the screen and you have to repaint to close them. While previewing a file to open try changing directories and see where you go. That is just typical how much of it is a disaster to use after using Solidworks.

But as for the Dialogue windows stayng te screen I ony see this with the wrong video cards.

Were are you going I am not understanding this comment.
    Please recap for me?

    What OS are you using?

    Thanks

It seems strange that you would say it is the video card that stop the dialogues being repainted as we have around 20 other software packages including Solidworks and Autocad and don't have a problem with any of them but they are all windows and Mastercam is DOS. The graphics cards we use are Nvidia G Force 4 with 64 meg ram on card. Operating system windows 2000 pro.
Regarding the drawing preview problem It is hard to imagine that you have not seen this problem as we have it all the time.
    Go to get file
    Highlight file
    Select bitmap preview
    Preview appears
Then click up one directory button because it is not the correct drawing so you want another directory.
    What do you get?
You will see how infuriating it is dealing with a DOS product when you are also used to using a windows product like Solidworks.

certanily answer any of your ?'s regarding Mastercam. We do gather your not happy w/ the software. Perhaps you should

Um, the preview button shows, you know.. like, a preview. Not folders. If you want to look at folders AND the preview, use the Preview button, not the Bitmap button...

    <edit>
Oh, btw, you can still navigate while in Preview by using a combination of the drop-down folder list and/or the back button.

I am waiting for my shop to install it. I think they are waiting to see if all the bugs are worked out. I keep telling them to install it.
