I have rebuilt my homemade engraver giving me more movement in all 3 axis. My dad who original did all of the electronics work on it gave me 3 #23-127-DS from Hobby CNC to replace the Sanyo Denki 103-771-18 motors that he originally put on it. Problem is I cant get in touch with him for the next three weeks and I dont have any clue about the wiring colors

Sanyo has 5 black, red, blue, yellow and orange
HobbyCNC has 6 black, red, blue, yellow, whte and green

It seems life would be too easy if I could just connect the first 4 matching colors and then just check between the other 2 to see what works best and hope not to booger anything up.

Does anyone know how I should wire these up?

I'm still new to all this, but it doesn't appear to me that there's any standardization regarding motor wiring color codes. Whatever you do, don't hook up the new motors until you're sure of the situation. Sorry I can't be more help.

Do a little testing on the stepper motor wires using a Volt Ohm Meter. Check for continuniuity on the wires, then tie a knot on the wires that have a complete circuit connection. Second, check the resistance on the wires that are tied together. The higher resistance wires are the outside leads. There should be four wires with high resistance reading. One set is Aa the second is Bb.

Wire it up. If the motors stutters, shut everything down. Power off. Reverse the Aa side and try again. Stutters again, reverse the Bb lines.
