Arrow How much are linear rails worth?

I bought some nice linear rails, and am thinking I am going to sell a couple. How much are they worth???

They are star rails just under 48 inchs /4 ft long. They are just over 3/4 of in wide, but I don't see that size in any star specs. I would guess they would be considered 20mm or 25 mm rails. I would be selling them as a set of two rails. Each rail comes with two carriages. Each carriages is greasable has the ballbearings in it and is the type that can be taken off the rail without the balls exploding everywhere. Each carriage is almost 4 inches long and close to 2 inches wide. These are some seriously heavy duty rails, and they are in very nice shape.

So what are they worth???? If they are worth enough I they will be listed in the classifieds soon. If not then I will keep them for some other inevitable project. Thanks all.

goto www.vxb.com and look at their linear shafts and trucks for pricing, but I think Gerry has hit the nail on the head.

I am not sure you guys have the right idea about what these rails are. They are not round/unsupported. They are like THK rails, and are fully supported. A similar rail from mcmaster carr is $600ish for just the rail no carriages.

They look like this just bigger. http://cgi.ebay.com/THK-GSR20T-Linea...efaultDomain_0

Or very similiar to this pic. But again they are very big. Maybe I ought to just take a pic of them

If these are used you will be pushing it to get $300 for them, there are a lot out there new for those prices, the rails you have if they are just over 3/4 will be 20mm & are not large, compared to 30mm/40mm rails

I've bought and sold the same size THK's, only 25" long, for $150.

They sure are worth that if they are in good shape,or new,I have matched sets53" & 46" New in there factory boxes, & only payed $260 per set of 2 rails & 4 bearings

If there is any rust on the ball tracks,( which a lot on Ebay have) they are not worth much at all
The rail is the most important part, the bearings can be rebuilt or replaced

    Breathe:
The "star" rails are superior to THK. If they are the ones, that I think they are, they use roller bearings. Much more robust, larger load capacity, ect.
THK use ball bearings. I have a recently refurbed a machine for a customer which was equiped with 35MM star rails. The rails were still in mint condition, but never the less he wanted new ones fitted. The price of replacement for 4 follower blocks and 2 rails, approx. 48 inch long was over $4000.00 US. By the way, "star" is owned by Bosch Rexroth. Look at their website to see what you have.

    cheers

There is nothing superior about the star rails, They are all about the same in quality
the 35mm roller rails most make them/sellthem, I have in stock at least 10 sets of the 35mm star roller rails that you could of had for around half of what you paid, they are new in the factory shipping boxes Just tell me the length you need

Star makes ball & roller rails just the same as other manufacturers

Was the machine that you rebuilt, was it a BridgePort, as they had star roller rails as a option on some models, not many machine use the roller rails unless they are a high end machine

The roller rails are superior to the ball rails, but it does not matter what brand name you use the qualty is all much to the same standard

I picked up 2x24" HSR30 rails w/4 trucks for $100. Used stuff on ebay is always a crap shoot, especially when international shipping makes returns an expensive decision.

    Questions:
One of the trucks is noisy and a bit sticky. The trucks have etchings that suggest some fitting and matching has been done. Are new trucks a direct replacement without issues ?
Lubrication ? I pumped in some lithium grease because it was handy. Okay ?
Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination.
