You can also use "configurations" . You can have many similar parts within one part. See the help menu.

I'd typically use configurations for that type of thing as well. In some cases, design table driven ones.

+1 for configurations, or save as copy...

Can't get solidcam to open part???

I wanted to create a new part from an existing one so I saved that existing part as a new file and new name. Then I spent hours drawing out my new design then I go to open solidcam with that part and says " origonal model names 'cam' and/or'design model'conflict with solidcam reserved names. Please rename them and try again" I have tried as much as I can think of and can't figure out how to get it going. Can anyone help me. Thank you.

I don't have solidcam but I'd bet that using configurations instead of save as will fix it. You could always call the solidcam guys and ask too.. It's expensive software: make them work for their money!

Good point I still like the forum too. It's been really helpful. I just figured it out. I kept trying to rename the file and that wasn't working so I renamed the part prior to going into solidcam, boom got it. I will do the configurations next time. Thank you
