    Bob,

How about quantifying the cutting speed more precisely? Before I
got my 7x, I used to cut up to 2" steel and 4" aluminum on the 4x.
Both of these could take 30 minutes or more. On the 7x, it takes
far less time for either of these (maybe 5 minutes), but that saw
cost twice what the DW872 does. Just curious, since if I wanted
add yet another saw to my collection my wife would have a fit. :-)

FWIW: On a miter saw I regularly cut 1/2"x8" Al in less than 10 seconds. The chips don't look a lot different than saw "dust." This is using the original blade. When the blade goes bad I will opt for a non-ferrous blade.

Yeah, pretty similar times for my small bandsaw and the school shop's larger bandsaw. 30 minutes, 5 minutes, these Multicutters take like Wildcat said: 10 seconds. If you want to baby it through a really big piece of solid stock, maybe 30 seconds.

It's funny, I had friends over from work and one of the ladies insisted on trying it. She whacked off a little piece of 2" brass in nothing flat and saved it as a paperweight.

    Best,

    BW
