As listed in the title, I am working on a Hardinge VMC 1000 and out of the blue, in the middle of making a part, the spindle dropped and the:: Alarm 409 SP1-12 was displayed on the screen. Also, the unit was in the process of moving to a different area on the part, so it was actually floating,, not under any kind of cutting load.
I found that cutting the unit off and then rebooting, cleared the problem and I was able to finish a couple of parts before the alarm came back. Now the unit will home and zero just fine, but alarms out immediately when it is going to cut. I see where this is a Spindle alarm, and comes under the the " over current in the DC link " category. I spoke with technical support at Hardinge/Hartwig and have checked out most of the items they told me to, with the exception of doing the Mega ohm check, I do not have a meter to read this yet.
Any help from you guys would be appreciated. I am under the gun on this job, as is usually the case when problems occur.
