Will be troubleshooting a 998 rom parity error at some point in the near future. I know it usually means the main board needs repairing but I'm hoping to be able to tackle this myself, or at least try first. I have some of the tools needed for pcb repair so we'll see.
My question is regarding the eeproms. I know you can get eeprom writers cheap nowadays and the exact chips aren't expensive either. Is there a way to make a new chip or troubleshoot the old one so I know it's bad? It's either OE1 or OE2. Can't remember off hand. Looking for any info.
Once I get it fixed I'm thinking maybe I should backup those chips so I could make new ones in the future. Is that possible as well?
