    Electronic Gear Box

    Hi,

I have a gear cutting machine that has about 30 change gears capable of creating well over one hundred different ratios.

I was wondering if it would be difficult to build an NC controlled gear box?

If I put a rotary encoder on the current input shaft - could a use a gecko or rutex drive to operate the output?

What would be the easiest solution to multiply the input freq - microcontroller, plc, or pc?

If anybody has any hints or ebay solutions on building something like this - I'd appreciate any advice.

    Thanks, Dan

There is a gentleman that is building an Electronic Leadscrew that you might want to checkout. I have no connection with him other than I belong to the group.
