WoodSpinner,
Here is a quick card stand I whipped up for your project in 1/4 inch plywood.
There are two base styles to choose from.

Hiya jeff,
Its a commissioned commercial file my company supplies to business users (its what I do for a day job) The complex train type models are designed to be laser cut in large numbers for retail use, feel free to drop me a direct mail if you do want a price list
best wishes
Dave
Thanks for the answer Dave. I was hoping to make it myself as a gift for my dad. (no, I don't want to sell any. They look way too complex but I understand that your company makes them so of course they don't sell the plans) At 80 he appreciates it more when I make things rather than buy them. (What do you buy for the guy that has everything anyway?) I've made a few of the "flat" trains for the walls in his model railroad shop. This was the first time I saw a 3D train like this.
Anyway, thanks for the offer.
Jeff

Time to give something back. I've been cleaning out my basement, and throwing away old software. I was determined to re-use my old CD's in some form without just throwing them in the trash. Here's what I up with. This is the Pegasus that I found on this thread, pulling a cart. I cleaned it up and added a stand, then nested the parts into the shape of a CD. It takes 1 1/2 CD's to make the complete horse.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I used a 1mm end mill to cut out the parts.
Enjoy,
Dan
Thanks. I'm glad you like it.
I'm using an end mill from think & tinker. I don't use any coolant, and run 22,000 rpm and .5"/sec or 30"/min.
I've had a lot of plastics melt on me, but the CDs cut cleanly. I use double sided carpet tape to hold the cd to the spoil board.
