One thing that I have gone by is "a small machine needs all the help it can get"

The Kurt vises are well worth it. The only thing is that it almost did not fit in my enclosure. It is a very solid piece. I think the extra mass (over 70 lbs) stabilizes the whole setup a bit more.

Unless there was some special requirement, I could not imagine using any other vise

    Hi Ed,

Great video, yeah, big vice... how do you think it would go on a job such as this 303 Stainless...
(I know its a much more $$ and bigger machine but interested in your thoughts...)

I don't have problems with column rigidity.
Mine is attached to a brickwall from the top.
Makes ALL the difference, plus regrinding ALL gibs every 100 hours.
Bought a surface grinder. Makes ALL the difference.
Head nod is 25-35 microns. 1-1.25 thou. Allowed for in program on final pass when needed. Always solid carbide cutters.
I can repeat Z to 2-3 microns when the gibs are fresh.
My machine has done over 2000 hours.
Super X3. 3600rpm. Sheridan 6"x24" Lathe + more. Three ways to fix things: The right way, the other way, and maybe your way, which is possibly a faster wrong way.
