My G704 is one of the early versions. In fact, it is #85 in 2010. I converted it to CNC immediately and have been running it A LOT since then making some parts I sell. In a recent lull in activity, I decided to reduce some of the backlash, finish the enclosure, and build some motor covers for flood coolant.
Put slightly larger balls in the Y axis and all worked very well. Somewhere in the .002 range of backlash. Same treatment to the X axis, BUT...
I can't get the blankety blankety gib strip to go back into place without locking down the X axis. While it was out I spent a little time improving the flatness of the strip by sanding it by hand on a piece of glass. Very little material was removed. It should not have changed the angle of the material. Everything is lube up well. I have loosed up both ends and the ball mount in an effort to insure everything is lined up. The gib strip will go in until about 2 inches is sticking out and it will begin to lock up the access.
I am at a loss. Any ideas?
