Wire type/gauge, power supply to G540?

A simple newbie question about the type and gauge of wire to use to connect a 48V power supply to a G540. I've searched and found answers ranging from 12 to 18 gauge for size, but is a specific type recommended as well (stranded, solid, copper, shielded etc)? Thanks

Thanks Al for the great info!

This would be considered "chassis wiring" and not "power transmission" wouldn't it? If so, it looks like from the chart that 19G wire or thicker would work. From what I've read, somewhat thicker would be advantageous. Do you have a recommendation regarding exact gauge? The distance from the power supply (which is 48V, 12.5A) to the Gecko would be quite short (less than a foot for sure). Sorry for the ignorant questions, but when it comes to electronics, I am. Thanks again.

I would use 14g or at least 16g minimum.
This is probably a bit more realistic a chart.
