    CNCFusion Y-Axis ballscrew too long for Micro Mark

    Hi all, I got my CNCFusion kit with ballscrews on all 3 axis yesterday. Everything seems in good condition. Started assembly tonight. It appears that the Y-axis ballscrew is too long by at least 1/4" so I can not tighten the motor mount to the mill base. Has anyone with a Micro Mark had this problem? I suppose the options are;

    1) add a 1/4" spacer between the motor mount and base

    2) hack away the back of the Y-axis slot to make a little more clearance

    3) cut off the end of the ballscrew

    I am not really set-up to do 3. Any recommendations?

    cheers,
    Michael

    Sounds kinda strange, I am guessing this an X2 type conversion? I like idea #1 . Fast trip to the hardware store for some 1/4" spacers until you can decipher what is goofy should do the trick to get you up and running.

    Yes, the Micro Mark is a Sieg X2. I actually have a 1/4" spacer that I made for my original conversion that used the stock leadscrews. It is ugly as sin though I can use it if needed. I still need to file a little of the Y-axis slot (back by the Z post) to make a little clearance since the screw is just a hair over 1/4" too long.

    Use the spacer, you should gain that in extra travel.

    I tried the spacer and that would have worked but I would have had to cut out a little from the back of the slot too. Ultimately, I spent 30 minutes with a hacksaw and 1/8" dill bit and removed a 3/8" by 1" chunk of iron at the back of the slot. That gives me the full range of the screw too.

    I got the Y wired up (it was working with my homemade mount and stock screws before the conversion) and gave it a test run. Much faster! Now I know why people recommend ballscrews.

    cheers,

    Yeah the speed is crazy if all you have had is stock screws, sometimes more then 3X the speed.

    Glad you got it engineered!
