    Electronic edgefinder

Newbie here. Do electronic edgefinderes work on aluminum? Is is conductive enough for the edgefinder to work.

Is there any sources of diy for these elctric edgefinders? I was looking at Enco's site and they want almost 100 bucks for one.(fowler)

If you'll be using the edgefinder to touch off the top of parts, make sure to get one that has some travel in the Z axis. The link above does not and they will break or leave a dent if you go a little too far when touching off the top of your part.
