I picked up a micro Kinetics 1340 lathe last year, and it has some issues.

When im running a part program, every now and again a message comes up on the screen that my usb cable has come unplugged. I have replaced the usb cable, changed the usb port im conecting to on the computer, and im still getting this message.

Any ideas?

Also, and this may be related, while executing a part program my z coordinates are drifting + or - by up to .12 at random intervals.

It is not the fine control knob spinning, thats locked down, any ideas? Are these two problems related?

Do I maybe not have my turnmaster software calebrated correctly with my machine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Im stumped, and frustrated.

I just bought one of these lathes. After much testing I found that if I set the backlash to 0 it worked. I noticed that the more reversals the program made the larger the error. You might check this, if it is the same problem. I tried all the changes for direction in the set up page. A complex program could be out a large amount. To correct for the backlash we program for a cut in only one direction. A little combersome but it seems to work. I would also check that all your set ups are set correctly. I am going to talk to them at Microkinetics about this problem. They seem willing to work with you on such issues.
