    DIY flex metal echain

    If you have more time than money, here is a way to make your own wire carrier.

    It doesnt require any welding and you can print out - stick to metal and use for template to cut

    The bending directions are on the pages

    Thanks!

    Looks like this could also be made from aluminum sheet on a CNC router as well.

    What does "HEM" refer to?

    I would assume it refers to the folded edge... like the hem on a pair of pants. Rounds off the sharp cut edge

    Yes, just like a pair of pants, it rounds out the edges and it is what locks it togethor.

    If there is interest i will post the cad files in dfx and takes some pictures of how it goes togethor.

    It could use a little more tweaking but I dont have time right now.

    Aluminum would be a great materal to use. I used 26 ga. galv. sheetmetal.
    The rods are 8-32 althread cut to lenght and the spacers 1/8" plastic tubing.

    Nice to hear from you Bruce.

    Yes, the DXF files would be very welcome indeed. I would think that sheet ABS plastic could be formed well enough if a little heat is used at the bend lines. Designing this for sheet stock allows many different materials to be tried.

    Thanks again,

    Hey Mike;
    Good to see you're still working and providing this community with absolutely great ideas. I'm just finishing a new router project which will be used to make some cabinet doors for my remodeling honey-do list. Going to use UHU controllers, one of your enclosures that I bought years ago, and some bigg A-- servos!.Keep at it!

    It is funny but that is why I came up with the echain, I am building a router table/plasma table because I need to do some cabinet doors.

    It is almost finished along with a small 2x2 table (Tinny) that i have been working on. But work has just been crazy this year and I cant get any time to finish them.
