    Looking for a solution

I am building a custom cabinet for the house that holds a bunch of electronics inside (computer with touchscreen monitor, amp, speakers, etc). The cabinet is a typical cabinet with full top, overlay back, pocket doors, etc. Mounted in the top of the cabient is the touchscreen monitor with a hinged lid covering the entire cabinet. When the lid is closed and the pocket door closed, there is no hint of what is inside the cabinet. I was planning on using just a general piano hinge to hinge the lid, but I am very concerned with it slamming down and damaging the electronics. What i am looking for is a soft closing system for this lid to prevent the inevitable.

I have looked at Blummotion designed for vertically mounted cabinet doors, but wonder if these would work in a horizontal application as well? I see they also sell just an insert that can be drilled into the cabinet side and utilized in that manner. This would be ideal, but I cannot find any ratings on these. Obviously if someone slams the door, it most likely will not hold up, but for the accidental oops? Any users of this product out there, or any other ideas?

    thanks all.

    Looked at them many times...

Unfortunately with the way the cabinet is built, I can't figure out how I could mount them in an appealing way. Remember, the cabinet has a full top so the only way I could mount these would be on the outside of the cabinet, and I don't think that would look the greatest. If I cannot find another solution, I will consider mortising a slot into the top to allow access for that style of hinge you pointed out.

    Thanks

I've never used them, but looks like the Blumotion insert might be the way to go. As long as you're only concerned about the slamming, and don't need any support.
