BOSS 8, Drive fault on start up

    Hi All,

Need your help. Operator (me) went "brain-dead" today. I flipped power switch on mill to turn it on, but forgot to start phase converter first.

Now when I power mill up properly after control does it's self test thing and before I press "axis enable" the red error light stays lit.

After pressing enable drives error light stays lit.
LCD looks normal and tells me to home drives, press execute. All normal.

When I press execute I can hear contactor releasing and drives do not come on. Now LCD reads "jog X" on first line. Second line reads a flashing "error 4000".

Manual tells me this is a drive fault error, but I have no idea as to how I can fix error.

So, does anyone have any idea of how much damage I've done?

    Appreciate any and all help.

    Yours, Jim Bass

The BOSS 8 has NC400 axis drives. They are in the smaller black cabinet on the side of the machine. Each has a red LED to indicate drive off or fault. when enabling the drives, see if all LED go off or if one stays on. If one stays on, itv may be bad. Check all fuses, power supplies, etc per the trouble shooting section of the Maintenance manual.

    Hi George,

Checked all fuses and started through the chapter 7 Troubleshooting.

Everything was fine until I got to the Drive Power Supply. Terminal 249, no power at all, should be 128vdc.

Manual states "If 128vdc is not present, the power supply should be replaced".

Anyone out there have a Drive Power Supply for a boss 8? If so pm me and we'll see if we can do a deal.

    Thanks, Jim
