I came across this on eBay (Item # 330322169625 , seller cncm3x). It's a nice looking chip and coolant splash guard. Here is a photo of it installed on a knee mill:
From the rear:
The rear wall is rubber, which I don't think is going to work out with a bed mill, so I would look to put very short sheet metal pieces on the ends.
It mounts directly to the table using the normal T-slot locations as far as I can tell:
This guard is designed for a 9" x 42" table on a machine with 12" travels. The IH has a 9.5" x 39.5" table and has 12.5" Y travel. Those differences looked to me like something I could make work, so I ordered one.
I might prefer a full enclosure at some point, but this one looked pretty nice, and the price of $279 didn't seem to bad. They want $500 for one on their site. You could fab one pretty cheap if you have a brake.
My shop has started picking up a fine layer of aluminum chips everywhere. It's amazing how many chips one of these CNC mills will throw off. I need some way to get it under control and this seems pretty quick and easy.
I'll report back when I get it on what it takes to fit it to the IH mill and how well it works.
Cheers,
BW
