Rapid tool moves when not cutting?

When my CAM program creates code for my lathe there are lots of G01 tool moves that are outside of part profile that I have changed to (G00) rapid tool moves.
Is there a reason these tool moves are written by CAM as mostly G01 and not G00? I have significantly cut run time down by changing non engaged tool moves to G00. Is there more of a potential of position loss, inaccuracy or lead screw wear with lots of rapid tool moves or a reason all non engaged tool moves should not be rapid?
    Thanks,
    Mike

For the most part, this is probably a condition of how you have your CAM system set up. For example: Lead In/Out set too far, Approach/Retract settings too far, a switch in the CAM system to allow for rapid moves in between cuts.. etc, etc. The odds are, the CAM system is posting what you're telling it to do. What CAM system are you using?
It's just a part..... cutter still goes round and round....
